Solarin, Simao named athletes of the year
A pair of Northwest College athletes who will be continuing their playing careers at the NCAA Division I level were named athletes of the year at Northwest College on Wednesday night. Men’s basketball player Jeffrey Solarin and women’s soccer star Samhia Simao were recognized for standout careers for the Trappers.

NWC soccer send three to Division I
The Northwest College soccer programs will be sending at least a trio of student-athletes on to compete at Division I schools following a series of letter of intent signings at the college. Second-team All American Dean Johnson, All-American and school scoring leader Samhia Simao and 2011 Region IX freshman of the year Haley Ahrenholtz will all be playing Division I ball come fall.

A stellar fall sports season at Northwest College culminated with the recognition of three student-athletes for All- American honors and one Trapper coach for surpassing a victory milestone.

Trapper soccer ousted at national tournament
The No. 18 Northwest College Trappers were eliminated from national tournament play Tuesday morning with a 2-0 loss to No. 8 Cincinnati State Tech in men’s soccer action. This time, there will be no last-minute miracles to extend the season.

Simao named Region IX player of the year
Northwest College sophomore Samhia Simao was named the Region IX women’s soccer player of the year after shattering her own school record for goals scored in a single season. Simao was also one of five players named to either the women’s or men’s first team all-Region list.

NWC soccer eyes national tournament
The seedings for the NJCAA men’s soccer national championship tournament were announced Tuesday and, as expected, the Trappers will have some work to do. Northwest opens tournament action at 3 p.m., Monday, against unbeaten Louisburg College out of North Carolina.

Georgia on their minds
The crazy postseason ride for the Northwest College men’s soccer team just keeps getting better and better. Once thought done for the year, the Trapper men upset third-ranked Yavapai 4-2 on Friday, then avenged a regional final loss to Western Wyoming by a 1-0 final on Saturday to win the district title.

Back from the dead
After an agonizing 2-1 loss to Western Wyoming in the championship game on Sunday, Northwest College men’s soccer coach Rob Hill had already begun the adjustment to the off-season. He’d even scheduled a time for players to hand in their uniforms and gear.

Western Wyoming ends Trapper soccer season
Soccer season ended over the weekend for both the men’s and women’s teams at Northwest College. Both teams met their demise at the hands of Western Wyoming — a program the Trapper teams had swept during the regular season.

Trapper Soccer advances
The Northwest College men’s soccer team opened the Region IX tournament with a victory on Tuesday afternoon, blanking Western Nebraska in a 3-0 victory. The Trappers advance to Friday’s semifinals, where they will face Otero in a rematch of last season’s title game.
