Solarin, Simao named athletes of the year
A pair of Northwest College athletes who will be continuing their playing careers at the NCAA Division I level were named athletes of the year at Northwest College on Wednesday night. Men’s basketball player Jeffrey Solarin and women’s soccer star Samhia Simao were recognized for standout careers for the Trappers.

Henwood headed for Wayne State
Hali Henwood, a two-year member of the Northwest College women’s soccer program and a 2012 member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s College Scholar All-American team, has signed a national letter of intent to continue her playing career at Wayne State College in Nebraska.

NWC soccer send three to Division I
The Northwest College soccer programs will be sending at least a trio of student-athletes on to compete at Division I schools following a series of letter of intent signings at the college. Second-team All American Dean Johnson, All-American and school scoring leader Samhia Simao and 2011 Region IX freshman of the year Haley Ahrenholtz will all be playing Division I ball come fall.

Three Trappers named to All-American teams
A stellar fall sports season at Northwest College culminated with the recognition of three student-athletes for All- American honors and one Trapper coach for surpassing a victory milestone.

Simao named Region IX player of the year
Northwest College sophomore Samhia Simao was named the Region IX women’s soccer player of the year after shattering her own school record for goals scored in a single season. Simao was also one of five players named to either the women’s or men’s first team all-Region list.

Western Wyoming ends Trapper soccer season
Soccer season ended over the weekend for both the men’s and women’s teams at Northwest College. Both teams met their demise at the hands of Western Wyoming — a program the Trapper teams had swept during the regular season.

NWC women prepare for post-season
The Northwest College women’s soccer team defeated Western Wyoming and Colorado Black, and drew a contest against Colorado Gold to wrap up the regular season with an 11-6-1 record. The Trappers host Western Wyoming again on Saturday to open post-season tournament play.

Women's soccer splits games
Samhia Simao set a single season scoring record while Leeann Payne set a single-season assists record for the Trapper women’s soccer team over the weekend. Despite the milestones, Northwest College was only able to manage a split of the road games.

Trapper women wrap up home season with win
The Northwest College women’s soccer team concluded the home portion of its 2012 schedule last Wednesday with a 4-0 shutout victory over Western Wyoming. The Trappers held the visiting team without a shot on goal while running their record to 7-4 overall this season and 3-2 in Region IX play.

Rattled
Northwest College drilled No. 15 Otero 3-1 in men’s soccer action in the latest installment of the budding rivalry between the two teams. Northwest and Otero have met in each of the last two Region IX title games, splitting the results.
