Solarin, Simao named athletes of the year
A pair of Northwest College athletes who will be continuing their playing careers at the NCAA Division I level were named athletes of the year at Northwest College on Wednesday night. Men’s basketball player Jeffrey Solarin and women’s soccer star Samhia Simao were recognized for standout careers for the Trappers.

Henwood headed for Wayne State
Hali Henwood, a two-year member of the Northwest College women’s soccer program and a 2012 member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s College Scholar All-American team, has signed a national letter of intent to continue her playing career at Wayne State College in Nebraska.

Thermop standout inks with Northwest
Dana Bjorhus, a multisport standout for Thermopolis High School, has signed a letter of intent to play women’s basketball for the Northwest College Trappers next season. Bjorhus comes to Powell after a highly decorated prep athletic career.

Erickson looks forward
What’s in a name? For Northwest College men’s basketball coach Brian Erickson, everything. Erickson led the Trappers to a 22 11 record and a Region IX tournament semifinal appearance while serving as the team’s interim head coach this past winter. While the interim label had no bearing on the team’s success during the season, Erickson learned that wasn’t the case when it came to the recruiting trail.

Burnett signs with Tenn. State
Northwest College sophomore Katie Burnett will continue her volleyball career at the NCAA Division I level after inking a letter of intent with Tennessee State University. The Tigers, out of the Ohio Valley Conference, are coming off an 18-14 season that ended in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Erickson officially made head coach for Northwest
A familiar face will return to the sidelines of Ken Rochlitz Court as the Northwest College Trappers officially named Brian Erickson head men’s basketball coach for the 2013-2014 season. Erickson coached the Northwest College Trappers to a 22-11 season and a Region IX tournament semifinal appearance while serving as interim head coach this past winter.

Solarin honored by NJCAA
Northwest College sophomore men’s basketball player Jeffery Solarin capped a brilliant two-year hardwood career for the Trappers by being named an NJCAA All American honorable mention on Monday. Solarin was one of three Region IX Players honored on the final national award list for the 2012-2013 season.

NWC soccer send three to Division I
The Northwest College soccer programs will be sending at least a trio of student-athletes on to compete at Division I schools following a series of letter of intent signings at the college. Second-team All American Dean Johnson, All-American and school scoring leader Samhia Simao and 2011 Region IX freshman of the year Haley Ahrenholtz will all be playing Division I ball come fall.

Out in overtime
The Northwest College Trappers women’s basketball team was ousted from the Region IX tournament with an 81-74 overtime loss to Gillette College in the semifinals in Scottsbluff, Neb. The loss denied the Trappers a spot in the regional championship game and capped a 17-16 year for the team.
